When estate documents should be read again
Site Administrator · September 17, 2026 · 1 min read
Wills and related documents should be revisited after events that change a family, a business, or the assets those documents were meant to cover.
Marriage, divorce, the arrival of a child, a move, or the sale of a major asset are common reasons to read existing documents again. The people named as executor, guardian, or beneficiary may no longer match the family as it is now.
A review also checks whether the documents still describe the property the person owns, including a business interest or a home that has been sold or refinanced. Formal requirements for signing differ by place.
